Craft Inspiration for Easter

A sweet finger play for young children, combining a simple poem with a little creature made from a piece of cloth.

The Poem

A dear little hare with ears so long

Peeps out of his hole in the ground.

He looks about: There's no one here,I'll go for a walk around.

But what's that I hear?

He moves his ears and when he hears a sound,

Quickly he goes and hides away,

in his hole in the ground.

What You Will Need

A soft square piece of cloth, approximately 45 cm square. Winceyette works beautifully, hemmed in a pale colour. Alternatively, try dyeing white sheeting in onion skins for a warm golden-brown tone.

How to Make Your Hare

  1. Fold the cloth in half diagonally to form a triangle.

  2. Tie a loose knot near one pointed end.

  3. Bring the other pointed end up through the loop of the knot to form two ears.

  4. Gently pull the knot a little tighter, then ease the whole shape out slightly.
